eCopy CEO Ed Schmid Outlines Strategies for Linking Document Scanning With Business Applications at InfoTrends Conference
In an industry keynote address, eCopy president and CEO Edward Schmid outlined how focusing on a document imaging standard can help information technology (IT) executives improve office workflows.
Schmid delivered the keynote address at the 2007 European Office Document Technology Forum, organized by market research firm InfoTrends and held in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
Schmid's address discussed how software vendors, multifunction printer (MFP) manufacturers and office equipment dealers are coming closer together to create an office document technology ecosystem. According to Schmid, "The motivation for creating this ecosystem is two-fold. One, it is to create differentiation to drive more business. But as important, it is recognition that to be successful, everyone needs to be working more closely together on addressing a customer's unique needs."
Schmid called building applications around a standard an essential ingredient in delivering customer-focused solutions. He cited document scanning as an example, where a standard means office workers can use the same scanning procedures at any of an organization's MFPs, which can be especially important for government and corporate compliance processes.
IT executives also gain benefits from a scanning standard, according to Schmid. For example, IT gains greater opportunity to integrate document scanning with core business applications, such as content management and email.
"Providing a connector that links document scanning with business applications helps IT pull in paper information that typically moves much more slowly than electronic workflows. By converting paper to secure digital documents and connecting this information with the applications that run a business, knowledge workers can have the information they need to do their work," said Schmid.
